January 31, 2009, we opened our doors to the public! It has been an amazingly fun year and we are so appreciative to our wonderful customers.

This year, on January 30th, we will be celebrating our 1 year Anniversary! So please come join us for the festivities! We will be having giveaways throughout the day- some for edible products like cakebites and cupcakes-- and others for merchandise like our tshirts & cupcake necklaces. And we'll also have a cupcake tower stocked full of cupcakes for our customers to enjoy on a first come first serve basis!

So...we've started doing something really fun at the bake shop these days....we're making MashUps Cupcakes!

We're taking our most delicious stand-alone flavors and mashing them up with other decadent flavors to create the perfectly paired cupcake!

For example, pictured below you will find two of our current MashUps:

Raspberry Cheesecake-- tart raspberry cake swirled with our velvety cheesecake cake and topped with a raspberry cream cheese frosting and dusted with ground graham crackers.

The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, and our Cupcakes

The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, stopped in Salt Lake City on her cookbook signing tour last night. Although I really wanted to make it up there to get her book/meet her/take her some our treats, I didn't think toting around a one-month old, an 18 month old, and a 3 year old all by myself in a crowd of over 400 would be the best idea. I knew that our friend Becky Olsen of UtahLovesCupcakes was planning on heading up to the event, so I asked her if she wouldn't mind taking our treats up. So, she was kind enough to be the courier of some cupcakes and cake bites to Ree! She, along with some other bloggers, were able to meet Ree and she was successfully able to deliver the gift.

Thanks, Ree, for being such an inspiration!!! And Thanks, Becky, for the favor! You can read Becky's post about it here too.

So, today, we went over to our friend's diner, Sammy's, and made some seriously delicious treats...Cupcake Milkshakes or maybe we'll call them CupShakes! We brought over the following flavors to try out to mix in with some ice cream- double fudge, vaNIElla squared, grasshopper, lemon, raspberry lemonade, and carrot. Holy wow! They were insanely yummy. More and better pictures to follow tomorrow. Sam is such a good guy and his diner, Sammy's, is such a cool local diner...their burgers and fries are soooooooooooo good.

Cupcake named in honor of Stephanie Nielson

Last week, it was brought to our attention that Stephanie Nielson, a remarkable woman who has inspired and lifted thousands of us across the country for years, loves our Vanilla Squared Cupcakes. She even posted about them on her blog the NieNie Dialogues . She jokingly mentioned that she thought we should "name it vaNIElla squared because I can guarantee I will single-handedly keep that cupcake selection going."

After a few email exchanges with Stephanie, we learned that she was "ecstatic" and "touched" about the idea. As such, we have officially changed the name of our "Vanilla Squared" cupcakes to "VaNIElla Squared." We figured the gesture would be a 'sweet' little legacy for her--who has candidly taught so many of us about the joys of life/motherhood. Her attitude, faith, honesty, outlook, understanding of what's important is so inspirational and so appreciated.

We are planning to hold a fundraiser at the shop next month (which is her birthday month) for her and her family. We will keep you posted about details....

Often times, we get the wonderful opportunity of seeing the reaction on a little kid's face when they see a cake resembling their current fixation. Whether it's dinosaurs or princesses or basketballs or ladybugs, there is nothing as rewarding as a cake artist when you see their eyes light up and their smiles beam when you show them their cake.

We had a customer ask us to make a Minnie Mouse themed cake and cupcakes for her little girl's birthday party. Here is what we came up with:

"I just wanted to let you know my baby girl LOVED her cake. Thanks so much for making her birthday so special. The cake was delicious and she loved the cupcakes! Thanks again. SS"

so we're back in the saddle, now that our lil' technicical difficulties have been ironed out(keeping fingers crossed) And we wanted to catch you up on some of our recent custom cakes we've done!

This cake was designed for an 11 year old girl whose mom told us, she has always been mature beyond her years. She wanted red, aqua, and brown and nothing to 'childish' but something more funky. This is what we came up with.

Some of our favorite customers came in and asked us to do a cake for their 10th anniversary of holding an Oscar night party.

Our friend's little boy LOVES him some spongebob, so why not create an almost life size edible rendition of the sea sponge for the little guy's birthday?

This cake was a wee little cake made for a 4 year old's birthday party. He loves Thomas the Train.

Yay!!! We just received word that Rachael Ray and her team liked our Cakebites enough to want to feature them on their show as a Snack of the Day!!!! We are so grateful, and so excited for this opportunity. As for now, we are planning on getting them enough Cakebites for an entire studio audience in the beginning of January. We will keep you posted as we hear more details about air dates.

so what does that mean?

That is the confirmation that our package was delivered to.....
We received an email from the Segment Coordinator for her show last week. They expressed interested in our products and asked us to send them samples so we could be considered to be featured as a "Snack of the Day" on the TV show.

Per the initial email...
"For "Snack of the Day," companies supply our show with enough complimentary snacks for one studio audience. In a "Snack of the Day" feature, Rachael will typically hold up a snack, briefly say what it is and where it is from, and then our audience members receive the snack off camera. Participating companies also receive a scrolling credit and link on our website once their snack airs ."

Pretty cool, eh? So now we just wait to hear how they liked our products. Here is a snapshot of what we sent....

This is our most recent custom "Sweet Stand." It was designed and created to match the bride and groom's color theme -black, white, pink. We were given artistic liberty with the stand, the topper cake, and all the cupcakes. The damask matched the design of their wedding invitations. They LOVED it and that is all that matters to us. :) We were extremely pleased with how it turned out.

The Sweet Tooth Fairy recently welcomed a lil' bundle of joy into this world and as such, I've been a lil' occupied getting back up to speed and keeping up with the blog. (Check out our Flickr page to see what we've been up to!) All is well though, and we're getting adjusted, and falling deeper in love with this lil' girl every day. Did I mention we made her nursery cupcake themed? Check out the pics--that's the day bed. I ordered a ton of cupcake fabric and we kinda went crazy in there! My favorites though are the custom art pieces from my friend Cakespy. Make sure you check out her stuff!

Dessert Night....

One of my favorite customers asked me if I could help her out with a Dessert Night she was throwing at their new home. Having a "background" in catering---thank you Lyn and Skeet---I quickly jumped at the opportunity. We came up with several different ideas so their guests would have many options: S'mores cupcakes, Chocolate-dipped Macaroons, Cream Puffs, Oreo Cake Bites, Strawberry n' Cream Pound Cake just to name a few. Here is a shot of the spread not quite in its entirety.

Wow...this was sure fun to make. Our dear friends' lil' boy turned 3, and they asked us to make a cake for him. He is at stage where he is obsessed with trains...so we made him a train cake. This cake was so bright and cheerful and fun. Aiden-the birthday boy- LOVED the cake. Everything is edible...we used chocolate dipped Oreos for wheels, twix bars for logs in the cars, and obviously...lots of cake, fondant, and buttercream frosting.

So, my darling friend Liz-who is 10 years my younger and like a little sister to me, asked me if I would be her assistant in a cake decorating competition she was having at her high school. I gladly accepted. We spent all Monday night baking the cake, and dying the frosting, and cutting out the pieces we we were going to use to decorate because the rules said we'd only have one hour to do the whole cake. Tuesday evening, we showed up to her school and packed into their Foods Class Room along with 50 other people. We had a blast and she did such a great job. Here is the final product.

Last night, my friends Gygi and Tara came over for some help putting together cute lil' Baby Block cakes for a baby shower they are throwing this weekend. We cut and rolled and decorated for 5 hours. It was like adult arts n' craft night. We had tons of fun. Here are a couple pictures of the final products...

So, we're always working on product development, and I think we hit a jackpot. They're a lil' bit country and a lil' bit rock and roll. Or maybe more like a lil' bit of cake and a lil' bit of chocolate--we like to call them Cake Truffles and/or Cake Bites. We haven't quite decided yet. They are yummy and FUN to make and we're hoping our customers will like them too. Here are a few pictures of the Red Velvet, Cookies n' Cream, and English Toffee. And we're also working on what I call Cake Lollies. They are essentially the same thing as our Cake Truffles/Cake Bites but they are on a stick...like a lollipop :)

One of our wonderful corporate clients, MovaVie, placed another gift box order for their Ruby Fly In. The girls, Ethan, and I had a lot of fun getting them together.

Each box featured 4 cookies - Sugar, Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Cranberry, and a bag of English Toffee, and a bag of Mocha Dusted Almonds. We did this for them in July of 2007, and they just placed another huge order for March 2th. Woohoo!

We made this Groom's Cake for an avid XBox 360 fan. The bride, and more importantly the groom, LOVED it. It was so fun to see their reaction to it. We wanted to post it because we think it's pretty cool.... :)

The Sweet Tooth Fairy Enters the Blogsphere

Yay! How fun this will be! I'm Megan, the owner of The Sweet Tooth Fairy--a small, made-to-order, family owned and operated, custom cake/sweets boutique.

We are busy, busy, busy creating delicious and beautiful goodies for people all over the country. We are based in Utah, just outside of Salt Lake City but we are able to ship most of our stuff just about anywhere. I've decided to take more pictures of the products we produce...as well as my wonderful employees while they're at work.

Here is a picture of our most recent order--they were picked up just a few hours ago...Cupcake Wedding Party Favors. A woman from my home state of California is throwing a shower for her sister here in Salt Lake tomorrow morning and she wanted to have some cute favors for the party. The wedding colors are yellow so that is what we came up with.
